In North Carolina, only Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapists are allowed to practice massage. (Please visit www.bmbt.org for more information.) After graduation from Natural Touch, massage students will be able to apply to the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) to take the National Certification Exam (NCE). Once the graduate has passed the NCE they may apply to the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy (NCBMBT) for licensure as a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist (LMBT). Esthetics graduates must take a state board exam presented by the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Examiners and apply for licensure. (Please visit www.cosmetology.state.nc.us for more information.)
More and more men are joining the massage profession. While massage therapists are still predominantly female, many men have been very successful. No employer should ever discriminate based on gender. While some clients may prefer female therapists, most are open to both men and women. Men have many opportunities in this profession.
Natural Touch Greensboro is approved by the NC Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy. The Natural Touch School of Esthetics in Hickory is approved by the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Examiners.
Each state regulates massage in its own way. Some states do not regulate massage at all. Visit www.massagemagazine.com to find out the regulations of the state in question, and to find contact information for that state.
We encourage you to consider all options available to you, however many students have told us they liked the comfortable and friendly atmosphere at our schools, smaller class sizes, our deep tissue program and that we are an energetically based program.
The field of massage therapy is growing very quickly. Our graduates have been pleased with the opportunities afforded them. There are many opportunities working for others, in resorts, spas, physical therapy offices, doctor’s offices, chiropractic centers, in corporate atmospheres, gyms and the list goes on. For those graduates interested in self-employment, they must understand the commitment necessary to building a clientele base. Our program includes coursework in Business and Professionalism, to better assist graduates in whatever their goals are.
